Another Tragic Attack by Tiger: Man Killed in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve
Another horrific incident has taken place within the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) in Coimbatore. On Monday afternoon a 49-year-old man, V C Kunjikrishnan, a resident of Muduguli, was tragically killed by a tiger while on his way to the town from his house.
Kunjikrishnan had been living alone since his family members and neighbours were shifted to Iyankolli when the Tamil Nadu forest department withdrew from the area.
Forest Department Speaks Out
The forest department has been closely monitoring the situation and have done their utmost to bring the body out of the reserve. Officials at TNIE revealed that forest staff that have been at the scene of the attack confirm that it was indeed a tiger that inflicted the fatal injuries, due to the marks and pugmarks found on the deceased man’s head.
The Unfortunate Consequences of Human-Tiger Conflict
This is the second incident of its kind in the area within the year. A 50-year-old tribal woman, a resident of Kurumbarpadi, was killed in the buffer zone of MTR on August 30th, 2020.
The loss of these two individuals serves as a reminder of the continued presence of human-tiger conflict. The local authorities are determined to take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of all citizens living in the area, and to do their best to minimize any more deadly incidents within the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
