Thief suspect beaten severely at Kangaroo Court in Jatagsinghpur village – Argus English

Jagatsinghpur, June 7: In another such incident, people of a village in Jagatsinghpur district took the law into hands by organising a Kangaroo Court and punishing a man on the suspicion of stealing. 

The incident occurred in Gopinathpur village under Biridi police station limits in the district for over a week. 

According to information, villagers nabbed a youth while he was moving in a suspicious manner in Gopinathpur village on the night of April 28. They soon stripped him and tied him to a pole. They then took turns to beat him through the night. 

On being informed by a source, a team of the Biridi police rushed to the spot and rescued the youth from the irate villagers. More than 100 youths beat the thief suspect that night. 

After rescuing the man, police took him to the Birid hospital and later forwarded him to the court.

According to villagers, some youths spreading mobil in the entire body had been stealing in Nuagaon and other nearby villages. Knowing this, the villagers made a plan to nab thieves and punish them.
