MAZAMA — A hiker died over the Memorial Day weekend while collecting minerals in the North Cascades near Mazama.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office says the 40-year-old man from Lake Stevens apparently fell about 25 feet from Kangaroo Ridge on Sunday. The man’s hiking partner notified the sheriff’s office, which sent a recovery team to the location.
They were unable to remove the man’s body by foot, so an air assist was provided by a helicopter company out of Kalispell, Montana.
The deceased man has not been publicly identified.
